Career Sampling Sessions

Overview

Throughout the year, prospective students have several opportunities to spend time observing the various jobs for which EGTI is providing training. During a two-day Career Sampling Session, interested participants will have opportunities to shadow an employee on each job and perform portions of the job. This will assist both EGTI staff and the participants as they determine which training program is right for them.

A Career Sampling Session is for EGTI staff and participants only (interpreters are scheduled as needed). This is an opportunity for EGTI staff to observe and work with each participant to gain insight on each participant’s skill set. Because of this, behavioral consultants, waiver support staff, parents, etc. may not attend the Career Sampling Session alongside the participant.

Participants will be provided a copy of both their self and vocational skill assessment at the end of the day. The purpose of these assessments is to assist participants, parents, teacher, Vocational Rehabilitation counselor, etc. in determining which training program is the right fit based on interest and skill set.

*Participants must be the age of 14 or older.

Location

The starting location for both days is the Courtyard Muncie, home of EGTI (601 S High St. Muncie, IN 47305). On day two, participants will walk to the MITS bus station, and ride MITS to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Start and End Time

Begin at 9am EST and end at 3pm EST. Once a participant is dropped off, parents may choose to leave the hotel or occupy their time in the hotel’s lobby. Parents must be back for pick up by 3:30pm EST should the day conclude early.

One day one of the Career Sampling Session, EGTI staff will hold an informational discussion for parents from 9 to 10am EST for those who would like to attend.

Overnight Arrangements

Participants are not required to stay overnight. If the driving distance is far, a participant may choose to book and pay for a room at the hotel to stay overnight. EGTI staff will not be available to provide evening or overnight support.

To book a room at a discounted rate:  Book your corporate rate for  Erskine Green Training Institute.

Cost

Participants will be charged a non-refundable $50 fee at the time of registration which will cover the cost of lunch for both days. Should a participant cancel or fail to show up, they will forfeit the $50.

Financial assistance to cover mileage, overnight stay, meals, and the registration fee is available to those who reside in a county serviced by Duke Energy (please refer to the blue counties in the link below). There is a cap of $150 per participant through Duke Energy monies. ALL SCHOLARSHIP DOLLARS HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED.

If you are working with Vocational Rehabilitation, and they are covering the $50 fee, please contact us at info@egti.org and request the promotional code. This code is required for the completion of the online registration.
